Is your car road trip ready? Everything you need to check before your next summer adventure.

Updated: May 24, 2023

We all love a good road trip. The open road, good company by your side, and some amazing road trip music blasting from the speakers!

Today we are going to talk about what you need to do before embarking on your next amazing journey. Just as important as remembering all your clothes, phone, and snacks; it is even more important to ensure that your vehicle is working its best to ensure your next adventure is safe and enjoyable.

Here are some things that you should check before hitting the open road:

1. Tires: Check the tire pressure and make sure they have enough tread depth. Also, inspect the tires for wear and tear, bulges, cuts, or protrusions. If you are unsure of proper tread depth or tire pressure, then check your owner’s manual.

2. Fluids: Check the oil, brake fluid, coolant, transmission fluid, & windshield wiper fluid levels. Make sure they are all topped off and there are no visible leaks.

3. Brakes: Make sure the brakes are in good working condition and not worn thin. Also, check for any buildup of brake dust on pads or rotors.

4. Lights: Check all the exterior lights, including headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and taillights. Make sure they are all functioning properly and are not dim.

5. Battery: Check the battery for any signs of corrosion or wear. Make sure that connections are tight, and the battery is fully charged.

6. Belts & Hoses: Check the belts for any signs of fatigue or dry cracking surfaces. Replace them if necessary. Check hoses for any wear, cracks, cuts, or leaks. While checking your hoses give your clamps a visual inspection for rust or wear.

7. Spare Tire & Tools: Make sure you have a spare tire, jack, & lug wrench in case of a flat tire. Check that they are all in good condition and inside your vehicle.

8. Emergency Kit: It’s always a good idea to have an emergency kit in your car. This should include (but not be limited to) a first aid kit, flashlight, batteries for flashlight, blankets, water, and non-perishable food items.

By checking these things before your trip, you can help prevent any unexpected breakdowns, keep your loved ones safe, and arrive on time.

We have created an easy-to-follow checklist for you to download below. I hope it helps and that yall have a blessed week.

Have a great week & stay safe my friends!
