What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts obtained through a process of distillation or cold pressing. These oils capture the essence and aroma of various plants, carrying their therapeutic properties. Used for centuries in traditional medicine and aromatherapy, essential oils offer a holistic approach to wellness and can help manage stress, anxiety, and related ailments.

Top Essential Oils for Stress Relief

1. Lavender Oil:

- Renowned for its calming properties, lavender oil is a go-to choice for stress relief. It promotes relaxation, reduces anxiety, and improves sleep quality. You can use it in a diffuser, as a pillow spray, or even in a relaxing bath.

2. Chamomile Oil:

- Chamomile oil, derived from the chamomile flower, is known for its gentle, soothing effect. It helps ease stress and anxiety, making it an excellent choice for those seeking emotional balance.

3. Frankincense Oil:

- Frankincense has a long history of use in spiritual practices. It promotes a sense of tranquility and helps clear the mind. Use it during meditation or as a grounding scent during stressful moments. I use this in both my Goodnight Moon and Namaste Roller Blends. (click to shop)

4. Eucalyptus Oil:

- While eucalyptus is often associated with respiratory benefits, its invigorating scent can also provide stress relief. It can help open the airways, making it easier to breathe when stress is overwhelming. This helps me once the anxiety attack hits me, and I feel like I can’t breathe.

5. Bergamot Oil:

- Bergamot oil has a citrusy aroma that's both uplifting and calming. It's known to reduce tension and promote a positive mood. Try diffusing it or adding a few drops to your bath.

1. Aromatherapy Diffusers: These devices disperse essential oils into the air, allowing you to inhale their calming scents throughout the day. Perfect for your home or office. I have one next to my bed, in my home office, one in the front office area of the shop I work for, and one in my office at the shop. You wouldn’t believe how many shop customers have walked in and commented on how amazing it smells in the shop. I have sold so many diffuser bottles at my shop that the owner purchased an entire set for his own office.

2. Topical Application: Dilute essential oils with a carrier oil (e.g., coconut oil) and apply them to your skin. Common application areas include wrists, temples, and the back of the neck. The use of a roller bottle to apply is the best way to keep yourself calm on the go. I created my roller blends so that I could take them with me everywhere. Just stick them in my purse and off I go.

3. Inhalation: Inhale the oil's aroma directly from the bottle or add a few drops to a tissue and breathe in deeply for quick stress relief. I use an inhalation stick for my Breathe and my Halo blend. They fit amazingly in my purse.

4. Bath Time: Add a few drops of your chosen essential oil to a warm bath. The combination of the soothing water and aromatic scent can work wonders for relaxation. Please dilute your essential oils with a carrier oil and mix them before you add them to your bath. If you want more information on essential oils and bath time, then check out my blog article here.
